Day Centres

 Choosing a Day Centre

Day Centres for adults with learning disabilities are now more varied than ever offering opportunities from art, dance and drama, to cookery, IT, horticulture and much more. They have traditionally placed an emphasis on personal development in areas such as social skills, communication, overcoming challenging behaviour, building confidence, and encouraging participation.

Opening times are often flexible with some centres offering evening activities. Many are based on permanent attendance for 1 to 5 days a week while with others it is possible to choose to attend individual sessions.

When choosing a day centre, it is a good idea to consider things like

  • The Activities on offer
  • Staffing levels and expertise
  • Ethos, aims and objectives
  • Levels of disability catered for
  • Costs and finance
